INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis Fire Department crews had an exhausting start to their Tuesday morning after battling flames from a two-story metal building fire nearby at 25th and Burton (first four images), then fighting a vacant double-residence fire at 27th and Burton Ave. (other four images), according to Indianapolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Rita Reith. Reith said crews were dispatched to 2530 Burton Ave. around 1:40 a.m. and were able to get the flames under control just after 2 a.m. Reith said damage is estimated at $75,000, and officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
Crews were on the scene of another fire at 27th and Burton, and noticed heavy smoke covering the area, Reith reports. They found another vacant residence in flames just around the corner, and crews were called back to help. Reith said no firefighters were injured in either fire, however damage is estimated at $40,000.
The 27th and Burton fire was ruled a possible electrical cause and investigators are asking anyone with information on the nearby fire, which they believe to be intentionally set, to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS or TEXT info to INDYCS.
