IFD Dive Crews Remove Car Submerged In Pond
IFD says dive crews removed car submerged in Sundance Apartment retention pond after woman, who remains in critical condition, drove on pond
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) officials say the car submerged in a local retention pond Sunday, Dec. 31 was recovered by IFD Tactical Team 7 Wednesday, Jan. 3, with help from Greenwood Fire Dept. Dive Team, IEMS and Hix Wrecker Service. IFD officials add the woman rescued from the submerged car on New Year's Eve is still in critical condition at Eskenazi Hospital, as all of the IFD family continues to pray for a full recovery. Witnesses (listen through link below) told dispatch the woman drove onto the frozen pond at Sundance Apartments just minutes before the car broke through and was completely submerged 12 feet under water.
Frigid, dangerous temperatures delayed the car's removal from the pond until Wednesday around 2 p.m. Officials say apartment management worked with IFD to secure a warming location for the crews and access to the vehicle.
