Indiana Evangelist Clayton Jennings Brings Donations, Prayers To Houston

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Central Indiana native and evangelist Clayton Jennings tells Patch he'll be in Texas Tuesday through Thursday bringing relief - and prayers - to his followers in Houston, as Hurricane Harvey continues. The author and poet drove down to Houston with a few others, as they're bringing a trailer filled with Lunchables, quick meals and water, all of which will be donated to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The evangelist, followers and Texas ministries he works with will culminate for a "Hope for Houston" event Wednesday night, a service at a city church.

Jennings and friend Blake Whiteley set a goal of $20,000 on the donation website everydayhero.com, where every dollar raised at the event will go to Samaritans Purse, to help with hurricane relief efforts. Well, that goal was reached- and exceeded- in less than one hour after Jennings announced and posted the donation link. That number is still growing, and has passed $57,000.

"I feel like this is what we're called to do," Jennings said. "It's getting worse down there and I have a lot of connections there with people and ministries I work with, so I'm going down."

Jennings said people have been asking him to go there, and have also written him to pray for the people of Houston. For Jennings, staying in the Indy-area and praying isn't enough for him when it comes to the devastating and disastrous weather in Houston. He is purchasing, bringing and donating all the supplies. But being there, in person, for his family, friends and followers is nothing new for the evangelist, as he's visited and spoken to millions around the globe during his "#TellTheWorld" movement and revivals. In between revival appearances and other hours spent working, Jennings makes it a priority to be at his Hoosier home as his wife will soon deliver their first child.

"I'm not someone who just talks about doing it," Jennings said. "I do it. I'm going to pray with people, and get people to come out."

Jennings said although they could expect anywhere between 600 to 1,000 people at Wednesday night's service, he knows the hurricane will most likely impact travel. Still, he's remaining positive for everyone hurt and saddened by the ongoing storm, and has a message for all:

"Hang on, God is with you and hope is coming."
