IndyCar Fans Can Expect Local Indy 500 Blackout To Continue
IndyCar's reported reasoning for another year of local TV blackouts during May 2018 race.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Remember when the Indianapolis 500 local broadcast blackout was lifted for the 100th running in 2016? I do. However, that won't happen come May, as IndyStar reports the 102nd running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" won't be shown live for those sitting at home. According to IndyStar, Mark Miles, CEO of IndyCar, said the plan is to continue blacking out the race to local viewers.
Besides 2016, the Indianapolis 500 has been blacked out for decades. However, even two years in a row of outstanding attendance for the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway probably won't change things in 2018.
IndyStar reports Miles also mentioned how the race is shown on TV within the same day, and live on the radio, as reasons behind the continuation of blacking out the biggest racing event.
