Gym Murder Suspect Sexted Woman After Killing: Report

Video: Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Dept. officials arrest Avon man for Oct. 13 murder at downtown 9 on Canal gym.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The man suspected in the murder of a young mother at the 9 on Canal apartment complex was sexting another woman after the killing, Fox59 reports. Cody Weir, 25, of Avon is accused in the death of 23-year-old Carina Rodriguez, who was found slain on Friday.

Weir was arrested on a preliminary murder charge after the killing, which police say took place inside the apartment complex gym in the 300 block of West 9th Street. Police said Weir was arrested Friday night after Rodriguez was found dead with what police described as "signs of trauma" in the complex's second-story gym.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released a surveillance video containing what they say are images of Weir, a person of interest at the time the video was released.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said homicide detectives are investigating the area surrounding a downtown apartment building after a woman was found dead in the second-floor gym. Police say officers responded to a call of a "person down" at the 300 block of West 9th Street just before 6:30 a.m. They say they found a woman suffering from signs of trauma, however detectives don't believe the victim was injured by gunshots.

IMPD says detectives are going through the area talking to residents about the incident and making sure they feel safe.

As of Friday afternoon IMPD said detectives are investigating this incident as a criminal homicide, following up on possible suspect information, and will know more about what happened early in the morning once an autopsy is completed.
