Teen Killed In FL School Shooting Had UIndy Scholarship: Report
Senior killed in Florida school shooting had a scholarship to UIndy in the fall: Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Another senseless school shooting once again leads to several lives lost, including the life of a teenager who was supposed to be Indianapolis-bound in the fall. IndyStar reports Nicholas Dworet, a high school senior, was one of the 17 people killed during Wednesday's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., and had earned an academic scholarship, committing to join the University of Indianapolis swim team in the fall, according to his swim coach.
IndyStar says police have not officially confirmed that Dworet was killed when 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz started shooting at the school around 2 p.m., located nearly 30 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. However, the news source says the teen's coach told them via a phone interview that he was with the young man's family when they received the confirmation Thursday morning.
Andre Bailey, coach of TS Aquatics in Broward County, Fla. told IndyStar that Dworet had turned his life around in the past year and a half, through training hard, focusing, and stepping up his academics and swimming. IndyStar adds that Bailey said the teen had a purpose and focus when swimming, so he "buckled down," set goals, and trained.

TS Aquatics posted a photo of Dworet (below) on their Facebook page Jan. 23 to show that the teen verbally committed to joining the Greyhounds.
