Cosponsor for the bipartisan Alzheimer's Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act

Advances in early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease offer real hope, especially through emerging blood biomarker tests that can identify the disease earlier and more accurately. As someone who is caring for my mother who has Alzheimer’s as well as losing my aunt and godmother to this awful disease, I often think about how different their journeys might be if these tools had been available and accessible to our family. In this era of new treatments, early detection is so vitally important for them to be effective. Too many Hoosiers, potentially half of the 121,300 living with Alzheimer’s, may be undiagnosed, and their families are left navigating uncertainty without answers.
Thankfully, Representative Andre Carson has already played an important role in accelerating access to blood biomarker tests and earlier detection of Alzheimer’s and other dementia in Indiana and across the nation by cosponsoring the Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act. This bill would also allow coverage for future test methods approved and cleared by the FDA, helping ensure beneficiaries do not face unnecessary delays or barriers to detection and treatment.
An earlier and accurate diagnosis can improve quality of life and reduce the financial impact of this devastating disease. Please join me and the Alzheimer’s Association in thanking Representative Carson for supporting the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act. With more than 7 million Americans living with this disease, we must do more, not less, in the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Visit alzimpact.org to learn more.
