INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Saturday, Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, otherwise known as "just a normal day" for those who drink the caffeinated staple daily. While several coffee retailers are offering special deals and promotions on Saturday (see below), Indianapolis-based coffee shop and roastery, Bee Coffee Roasters, wants to give a lucky Patch reader a free bag of their coffee beans for signing up to receive a free morning newsletter with relevant Indianapolis area news from Patch.
Those aren't just any coffee beans, their carefully crafted beans are roasted fresh at coffee company's roaster in the Circle City Industrial Complex, and are then sold their two shops, located at 5510 Lafayette Road and downtown at 201 S. Capitol Avenue. Bee Coffee Roasters also sells their coffee at several local businesses and retailers.
Jessi Collins, Finance Manager and Employee Trainer for Bee, said the roasting used to be done in-house at the Lafayette Road shop, but was recently moved to the Circle City Industrial Complex.

"We're really excited about the opportunities this will bring for us, by increasing wholesale business as we're hoping for more local companies to provide our coffee for others," Collins said.

While "Specializing in consistent, hand crafted roasts and coffee beverages" in the shops, the Bee Coffee Roasters team makes it a priority to be part of the community and contribute to other local groups and events, including farmers' markets, the annual Yelp's Totally Bazaar! in December and the annual Caffeine Crawl, which takes place around the Indianapolis area Oct. 20.
During my recent visit to Bee's Lafayette Road location, owner BJ Davis was heard saying goodbye to a customer she said comes to the shop every morning. She said he orders iced tea instead of coffee, which might leave some people wondering, why would a man who doesn't drink coffee make the trip to a local coffee shop every day? Well, he said the people at Bee are the reason he comes in to get his tea every morning.
Collins said Bee is a place where you can come in, sit and have a conversation with the barista or team member behind the counter, while watching them craft your order. Davis can also tell you a thing or two about coffee, as she's been in the business for more than 20 years.
The friendly, talented staff, coffee and drink creations and other menu choices at Bee are something to experience for yourself, especially at this time of year, when their pumpkin latte is featured. Collins said they make their own pumpkin syrup for their pumpkin latte. They also sell their freshly baked pastries and other food items made daily in the shops by team members.
