Woman, Dog Killed In Southeast Side Apartment Fire
PHOTOS: Indianapolis Fire Department said a woman and dog were killed, one person taken to hospital after Wednesday night fire.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis Fire Department officials report an elderly woman and a dog are dead following an apartment fire on the city's southeast side. Fire officials said 92-year-old Lura Icenogle and a poodle (Dawn) were found dead Wednesday night at Strawbridge Green Apartments on 4638 Glastonbury Court. IFD crews were called to the scene just after 6:20 p.m., where they say they found heavy smoke coming from the building's first floor. IFD said Icenogle's 60-year-old daughter was evacuated and transported to the Eskenazi Hospital to be examined.
Her 60-year-old daughter was rescued from the home by firefighters and taken to a hospital to be examined.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith said four apartment units were damaged, displacing more than a dozen people. She adds IFD Victims Assistance is working with Strawbridge Green Apartments management regarding shelter for these residents.

Damage to the building is estimated at $65,000, according to Battalion Chief Mark Culver, and no firefighters were injured.

IFD said there were working smoke alarms, however officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
