📰 News we're reading
1. Lafayette considers faster digital billboard changes along I-65 (jconline.com) — Lafayette officials are pushing a zoning change that would let digital billboards along I-65 switch ads every eight seconds instead of every 60, while keeping stricter rules elsewhere in the city. The proposal, aligned with state highway standards, goes first to the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission, then to Lafayette, West Lafayette and other local councils for final decisions.

2. Lafayette council denies Wabash Township request for more funding (jconline.com) — Lafayette City Council has rejected Wabash Township's $750,000 request for public safety funding, saying the city must prioritize its own growing fire and police needs. City leaders detailed looming costs for a new fire station, equipment, and up to two dozen firefighters as Lafayette braces for growth and potential tax revenue losses. Township officials warn their rapidly growing community is also struggling to keep up with emergency calls.

3. Deery asks Indiana Supreme Court to take recount case, seeks emergency ballot pause (ipm.org) — Control of a state Senate seat representing West Lafayette and the Lafayette–Terre Haute corridor now hinges on six disputed ballots, with Spencer Deery trailing Paula Copenhaver by just three votes after a recount. Deery is asking the Indiana Supreme Court to take the case and pause printing general-election ballots while judges decide whether clerk errors should invalidate otherwise legal votes.

4. GNOME Project and Good Samaritan Project partner for growth in Romney Meadows (wlfi.com) — A new partnership between the Good Samaritan Program and the GNOME Project is growing both fresh food and literacy in Romney Meadows in West Lafayette, adding a community garden and a tiny library box. Organizers hope the space will strengthen families, improve access to healthy food, and inspire similar garden-and-library hubs across the county that Lafayette-area residents can use to connect.
