• Lawrence Executive Named IMA Vice President (cityoflawrence.org) — A key member of Lawrence’s mayoral staff has just been elected vice president of the Indiana Mayors Assistants, giving the city a stronger voice in statewide municipal discussions. Executive Assistant Nikia Simmons will serve in the 2026–2027 term, reflecting both her professional reputation and Lawrence’s growing role in Indiana’s local-government network. City leaders say this kind of engagement helps bring best practices and new ideas back home.
   

• Mayor Urges Opposition to Larger Truck Proposals (cityoflawrence.org) — Lawrence Mayor Deb Whitfield is asking residents and federal leaders to oppose proposals allowing larger, heavier trucks, warning they could damage local roads and threaten safety. She and the Common Council have already passed a resolution and sent concerns to Indiana’s congressional delegation, stressing that Lawrence’s location near I-465 already brings heavy truck traffic through neighborhoods.
