Local officials say some homes still lack electricity after last week's derecho, as neighbors from Merrillville and nearby towns share generators, supplies, and rides while crews slowly restore service.
• Standing With Our Neighbors: Legacy Foundation Mobilizes Major Relief Fund After Severe Storms (lakeshorepublicmedia.org) — Merrillville residents affected by this summer's severe storms are getting a major boost, with $395,000 already awarded through the Merrillville Tornado Relief Fund. Building on that effort, Legacy Foundation has launched a broader Lake County Disaster Relief Fund, seeded by a $100,000 gift, to support ongoing cleanup and recovery. Locals, businesses, and organizations can donate online to help neighbors rebuild.
