• Candidates in District 19 differ on ways to fix property tax reform law (chicagotribune.com) — Voters in Merrillville are part of a closely watched Indiana House District 19 race where incumbent Republican Julie Olthoff and Democrat Nicholas Neal clash over how to fix the state's new property tax reform law. Both candidates say local communities, including Merrillville, face budget pressures, but they sharply disagree on whether to repair or repeal the law and how best to address broader issues like HOAs, foster care, policing, and affordability.
