• Linda Luedtke Gilpin (yournewslocal.com) — Merrillville residents are remembering Linda Luedtke Gilpin, a 1959 Merrillville High School graduate who later counseled students at Merrillville Jr. High and Merrillville High School during a 43-year education career. She was deeply involved in church, civic groups, and volunteer work before her passing, with a memorial service set for September 18 in Wabash and suggested memorials to several local organizations. 
• Braun suspends Indiana gas taxes into October (chicagotribune.com) — Drivers in Merrillville are seeing some of the state's cheapest gas, with Sam's Club listed at $3.19 a gallon as Gov. Mike Braun extends Indiana's gas tax suspension into October. The move taps state reserves to offset lost road funding while officials promise 2027 projects will stay on track, even as Braun links high prices to global conflicts and shipping disruptions.
