• Portage council prohibits discharging firearms, other weapons allowed (chicagotribune.com) — Portage residents should know the City Council has restored a ban on discharging firearms inside city limits but chose to keep BB guns, bows, and similar weapons legal. The 4-3 party-line vote followed complaints about BBs crossing property lines and a debate over safety versus “backyard freedoms,” and the mayor plans to sign the ordinance as passed.
