City Releases Latest Draft Of Police Discipline Matrix
South Bend officials continue to seek feedback from the community.

Mayor James Mueller, Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski, and Corporation Counsel Stephanie Steele released the latest version of the police discipline matrix, which lays out specific disciplinary actions for different types of misconduct.

“This is a needed step in making sure there is consistent discipline for incidents of misconduct,” said Mayor James Mueller. “We’ve got to continue building trust between our community and our police department.”
The new matrix incorporates feedback gathered from the public electronically and through previous Community Action Group meetings, and includes six levels of possible misconduct with discipline for each category of violation.
