Lake Michigan's First Floating Water Park Opens In Northwest Indiana

New aquatic playground opens Saturday at Whihala Beach in Whiting.

WHITING, IN — A floating water park in Lake Michigan opens this weekend about 15 miles south of Chicago at Whihala Beach in Whiting, Indiana.

The Whoah Zone is a 1-acre aquatic sports park featuring slides, jumping platforms, bridges, monkey bars and more about 100 feet off shore in waters between five and 12 feet deep, according to the Times of Northwest Indiana. In total, the park includes 61 different floating play elements — grouped into four levels of difficulty — over an area of more than 220 square feet.

Built by the German company Wibit, Whiting's new aquatic playground cost $300,000 and aims to bring more visitors to Whiting's lakefront, the Mayor of Whiting told the paper.
