1. South Bend Police Department searching for two reported runaway teenagers, asks public for help (abc57.com) — South Bend police are asking residents to help locate two missing teenagers, Zyair Smith and Eddie Weiser, who may be in South Bend-area neighborhoods including Miami Hills and the city's west side. Family members are worried for their safety, and anyone who may have seen them is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately with any information.
   

2. Mishler, Niezgodski: State Budget Committee Tours Regional Economic Development Projects (timesuniononline.com) — State budget leaders just toured South Bend-area projects, including IU-South Bend, Notre Dame, and major regional improvements funded by the state. Their visit highlighted investments in road infrastructure, tourism sites like Potato Creek's new inn, and local attractions such as the zoo, Morris Performing Arts Center, and Four Winds Field that are shaping St. Joseph County's economic growth.
   

3. Grant to Rebuild South Bend Station for Amtrak (wordpress.com) — South Bend is getting a major boost to its rail future, with a new federal grant funding most of the planning to bring Amtrak service back to historic Union Station downtown. City-led studies will explore track, platform, accessibility, and amenity upgrades, potentially shifting service from the current Bendix station and improving connections to the nearby city bus hub.
   

4. NIPSCO announces $2M charitable contribution, customer support measures (abc57.com) — South Bend residents served by NIPSCO should know that disconnections for nonpayment are suspended through September 30 while extra financial assistance is made available. A new $2 million charitable contribution will flow through regional foundations to support nonprofits helping Northwest Indiana communities recover from the August 11 storms, with resources aimed at keeping customers safely connected and supported.
   

5. Indiana Michigan Power files rate case with IURC, works to reduce base rate for Hoosiers (abc57.com) — Indiana Michigan Power is proposing a base rate reduction plan that could cut the largest line item on Hoosiers' electric bills by about five percent and freeze other rates for three years, with changes expected by mid-2027. Company leaders and South Bend Chamber president Jeff Rea say growth from large customers like data centers will help fund the shift without shifting costs onto other customers.
