Local Roundup: VU volleyball cruises past Southeastern (suncommercial.com) — Vincennes-area teams and organizations had a busy week, from Vincennes University volleyball rolling past Southeastern Illinois to Lincoln, North Knox, South Knox, Clark, and Rivet athletes competing in cross country, tennis, football, golf, and volleyball. Local families can also look ahead to the Oct. 10 All-Wabash Valley Martial Arts Tournament at the YMCA of Vincennes, co-hosted by several hometown dojos and the Moose Lodge.

RDC Approves Firehouse Flats Agreement on Thursday (mywabashvalley.com) — Vincennes’ Redevelopment Commission has unanimously approved the Firehouse Flats economic development agreement, moving an 89-unit downtown apartment project and related parking plans closer to construction. Supporters, including Vincennes University and Good Samaritan leaders, say new housing will help recruit residents and boost Main Street, while critics, including the clerk-treasurer and downtown business owners, raised concerns about parking, transparency, and limited public input.

4. Michael Thornsbury, 69, Loogootee (waovam.com) — Loogootee resident Michael David Thornsbury, a U.S. Air Force veteran and longtime military aviation contractor, has died at 69, with his final resting place to be Veterans Park in Vincennes’ Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to honor his memory through donations to the Wounded Warrior Project and by sharing condolences with the Vincennes funeral home handling arrangements.
