Extreme Cold Weather Prompts Quick Response From Local Agencies
Extreme cold weather prompts an immediate response from various agencies across the City: Report

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials want to remind everyone that city agencies, public safety, hospital and homeless outreach units are out in full force all day and night during this bitter cold time. IMPD says the Homeless Outreach Unit has been patrolling areas of the homeless and are offering opportunities for transportation to shelters to those in need. IMPD says officers will supply a warming kit to anyone who wishes to remain where they are, which includes a wool blanket, hat, gloves and hand warmers to assist them during these bitter cold temperatures.
According to a release, participating agencies include - Office of the Mayor, Office of Public Health and Safety (OPHS), Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), IMPD Homeland Security, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homeless Outreach unit and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department (MCSO).

IMPD says each year the Professional Blended Street Outreach Team serves hundreds of citizens by connecting residents to much needed resources. During extreme cold weather events, additional patrols are working to aid in keeping our vulnerable populations safe and identifying additional measures that may be necessary.
People in need of additional assistance are asked to call 2-1-1 for shelters in the area or for home heating assistance.
