Iowa DMV locations to close temporarily for staff safety training (kcci.com) — Ankeny residents who rely on the local DMV should plan ahead, as the Ankeny office will be closed on Sept. 23 for statewide staff safety training. Other Iowa DMV locations, including Ames and Cedar Rapids, will close on Sept. 30, but online services remain available so you can still handle many license and registration needs.
   

2. Sixth-generation Ankeny farm warns wet fields could cause costly compaction (kcci.com) — A sixth-generation farm near Ankeny is warning that persistent rain and standing water are threatening crops and could cause years of soil compaction damage if heavy equipment enters saturated fields. With harvest expected to start late September, the family is hoping for a week or more of dry weather so corn and other crops can safely dry down.
   

3. IGHSAU volleyball rankings for 9/17/26 (1630kcjj.com) — Ankeny volleyball fans have plenty to cheer about, with Ankeny ranked No. 3 and Ankeny Centennial No. 5 in the latest Class 5A state poll released Thursday. Ankeny Christian also tops the Class 1A rankings, highlighting a strong showing for local programs heading into the heart of the season.
   

4. Infant found dead in trash at central Iowa daycare center (wjla.com) — Ankeny residents should know that the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office here is handling the autopsy after a premature infant's remains were discovered in a trash container at a Perry daycare Tuesday evening. Perry police say the infant was not a client of the center, and the investigation into what happened remains active with few details released so far.
