Ankeny kids and families learned a little about fire safety Wednesday night and had a lot of fun doing it.
The Ankeny Fire Department held its annual open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The open house is always held during National Fire Prevention Week.

This year's theme was “Have Two Ways Out!”, which focuses on the importance of fire escape planning and practice.
Children’s activities at the open house included practicing escape routes from the fire safety house, drawing the family escape plan, trying on firefighter gear and crawling through the firefighter search maze.

Adults could learn how to spot fire dangers, practice using a fire extinguisher, visit the fire museum and see interactive displays on all types of household dangers.
