1. Atlantic Fire Fighters Join Annual MDA Fill the Boot Campaign (kjan.com) — Atlantic Fire and Rescue will be out at Atlantic Fest this Saturday, Aug. 8, collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through the long-running “Fill the Boot” campaign. Firefighters will be stationed around town from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., inviting residents to give in person or online to support families facing muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.
   

2. New Water Storage Tank and System Control Upgrades Mark First Steps in Decades-Long Commitment to Reliable, High-Quality Water Service (kjan.com) — Atlantic Municipal Utilities is beginning a long-term upgrade of the city’s water system, starting with a new 600,000-gallon Clearwell storage tank and modernized control systems. The project will double storage capacity, bolster fire protection, and improve reliability, with control upgrades finishing in fall 2026 and tank construction running through mid-2027.
   

3. Atlantic City Council passes resolution setting a public hearing on a proposed Urban Renewal Plan amendment (kjan.com) — Atlantic’s City Council has set a public hearing on using Tax Increment Financing to extend streets and utilities for a new Mudslayer Manufacturing building on SW 7th Street. Mayor Rob Clausen also reported that yard-sign enforcement of mowing violations is working, while other properties will soon be honored with recognition signs for beautification efforts.
   

4. Grassley lauds E15 inclusion in Farm Bill draft (mystar106.com) — An Atlantic resident, Glen Smith, is being pushed by Senator Chuck Grassley for confirmation as USDA Under Secretary for Rural Development, a role that could influence rural investment in places like Cass County. Grassley also highlighted Farm Bill provisions supporting E15 fuel, and outlined efforts in Washington to avoid another federal government shutdown that could affect local services and farm programs.
