In House District 56, incumbent Republican Mark Thompson of Belmond will face Democrat Kyle Kruse of Hardy, while neighboring districts saw newcomers and incumbents secure nominations in mostly rural, nearby counties. 
• Thomas Daily (kiow.com) — Belmond is mourning the loss of longtime resident Thomas James Daily, 65, with a private graveside service planned at Belmond Cemetery and arrangements through Andrews Funeral Home in town. Daily built a 25-year career with Iowa Select Farms after his family settled in Belmond and was even honored as the community’s first Yard of the Month, remembered for his devotion to family, hard work, and friendly presence around town.
