• Burlington awarded over $6M to build a fire station for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (kwqc.com) — Burlington has secured more than $6.7 million to build a new fire station on North Roosevelt Avenue that will serve both the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and residents and businesses in northern Burlington. The permanent facility, with advanced emergency response equipment, is expected to significantly improve response times and reduce the plant's current reliance on minimally staffed, temporary services. 
• Rice sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting death of Janea Osier (mississippivalleypublishing.com) — A Mount Pleasant man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for the March shooting death of 19-year-old Janea Osier during a fight at a Burlington bar on Agency Street. Osier was taken to Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, where she died the next morning, and a Lee County jury later convicted the shooter of voluntary manslaughter and related charges.
