Eastern Iowa Airport offers visitor passes for nontraveling guests (cbs2iowa.com) — Cedar Rapids residents can now join loved ones past security at the Eastern Iowa Airport using the new CID Visitor Pass, even without a ticket. Approved applicants, including minors, must clear standard TSA screening and can apply online up to a week in advance, then enjoy post-security dining, shopping, or extra time with travelers until 9 p.m. 
2. MidAmerican Energy holding public meetings to discuss gas rate increase (kcrg.com) — Cedar Rapids residents can weigh in on a proposed MidAmerican Energy natural gas rate increase at a public meeting on September 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn. The plan would raise average monthly bills about 5 percent, and people can also join a virtual session or submit written comments to the Iowa Utilities Commission.
3. Cedar Rapids ranks 14th on Indeed's inaugural Best Cities for Work list (cbs2iowa.com) — Cedar Rapids has been named one of the top 15 U.S. metro areas for work, ranking 14th overall on Indeed's new Best Cities for Work list. The city scored especially well for housing affordability, commuting, and job opportunities, reinforcing its appeal for residents weighing career growth, pay, and work-life balance.
4. 'Star Wars: A New Hope' Live in Cedar Rapids With Orchestra Iowa (khak.com) — Cedar Rapids Star Wars fans can look forward to a live performance of John Williams' score for "A New Hope" by Orchestra Iowa at Veterans Memorial Stadium on June 12, 2027, with the film playing on the jumbotron. Tickets go on sale September 15, giving locals plenty of time to plan a night celebrating the movie's 50th anniversary.
5. St. Luke's Child Protection Center receives FBI award (kcrg.com) — In Cedar Rapids, UnityPoint St. Luke's Child Protection Center is being honored with an FBI Community Leadership Award for its work helping about 750 Eastern Iowa children each year. Staff provide exams and interviews for abused children and are now preparing to handle emerging cases involving AI-generated child abuse images.
