New Year's Resolutions About Food: Health and Wellness Blog
Did you make a New Year's Resolution to eat healthier too? Consider the Food Guide Plate to help you reach this goal.

Many of us made New Year’s Resolutions involving food. In 2010, the USDA replaced the Food Guide Pyramid with the Food Guide Plate. According to Dr. Chaney, the new visual consists of a dinner plate and an 8-ounce glass of milk. Vegetables and fruits occupy half of the dinner plate, with grains and protein occupying the other half. And if you look a bit more closely, the vegetable portion is slightly bigger than the fruit portion and the grain portion is slightly bigger than the protein portion.
The new program I started before the holidays takes care of all but one meal a day so I have lots of time to master this plate :). Luckily, with my work in natural health and wellness, I have gradually moved the direction of the plate over the past several years – baby steps do wonders! Cooking for another person who does not have as much interest in this plate makes meal time a little tricky. I have reached the point of including most of the parts of the plate in our meals – now I will continue taking baby steps to adjust the portions. Do you have any good recipes that fit this plate?

Remember, reaching a goal with help is better than not reaching it at all: working with busy women who are passionate about making a change in their health because they are “sick and tired” of being sick and tired - mentoring them using natural health & wellness so they can save money and sick days!
