Rwanda Speaker at First Presbyterian Cedar Falls (Blog)

Anysie Uwimana will share part of her experiences regarding genocide in Rwanda June 2, 7:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls.

Sunday, June 2, Anysie Uwimana from Rwanda will be sharing part of her story before, during and after the genocide in Rwanda. This will take place at 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 902 Main Street, Cedar Falls. Anysie is currently on staff with the Presbyterian Church in Rwanda (EPR) in the Health Department as a project finance manager. During the Genocide beginning in April of 1994 her entire family was killed, but she managed to escape and remain hidden until being rescued in July 1994.

Besides working daily with financial matters, she monitors projects in rural communities aimed at assisting women with low incomes to improve their lives. Since 2005 she has served as an Elder in Kiyovu Parish, Kigali. Anysie is working on a book, tentatively titled “IF THE HILLS COULD TALK,” which tells her personal story from childhood in a remote village to her schooling in Kirinda, where she was working when the killing began. But, as she says at the outset, “my story is not an indictment of the horrors that took place in my country, it is my witness to God’s re-creating power in the face of inhumanity and injustice.” This presentation is free and open to the public. Spread the word and invite your friends!
