FLAVORNATION JOINS PANTHER NATION: ERBERT AND GERBERT'S COMES TO UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN IOWA

In June, Erbert and Gerbert’s is donning purple and gold, campaniling and serving hungry Panthers at University of Northern Iowa (UNI) with the opening of its first university bistro location in Iowa. Located at Maucker Union, the popular restaurant famous for its gourmet sandwiches with unique names like Pudder, Girf and Tappy and a bevy of soups and sides will serve a collegiate audience that has made the sandwich shop’s bistro concept a success at colleges across the country.

The opening of Erbert and Gerbert’s bistro at UNI is the culmination of a two-year journey to bring the popular restaurant to the university. Popular with college students at both its stand-alone and college bistro locations, Erbert and Gerbert’s place at UNI is fitting, said Erbert and Gerbert’s President and CEO Eric Wolfe.

“Erbert and Gerbert’s has resonated with college students since the founding of its first location in 1988,” said Wolfe. “Bistro locations have met with great success because they provide students with delicious subs and sides that other restaurants just don’t offer. Given a choice between going off-campus and spending more for less or staying on campus for an Erbert and Gerbert’s Quatro, made with cranberry wasabi chicken and cherrywood smoked bacon, or an Apollo, made with chipotle citrus BBQ chicken, the best choice is obvious.”

Carol Petersen, director of dining at UNI, agrees.

“When deciding on a restaurant to bring to UNI’s student union it was important that we chose a brand that we knew would appeal to our students,” said Petersen. “Erbert and Gerbert’s speaks to our distinct student population with the menu variety it provides and the value of the menu offerings.
