New Location for the Electronics Recycling and Household Toxins Drop-off

Black Hawk County residents: Mark your calendars for the Fall Household Toxic Materials & Electronics Recycling Drop-off on Sept. 26th!

A big change is happening with the Fall Household Toxic Materials and Electronics Drop-off Event! This event will take place on Saturday, September 26 from 9 AM – 2 PM at a NEW LOCATION - the NEW Cedar Falls Public Works Complex at 2200 Technology Parkway (near the Target Distribution Center). Once again, the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission will be partnering with the City of Cedar Falls to sponsor this drop-off for ALL Black Hawk County residents to properly get rid of toxic materials and electronics (fees may apply) from their homes and garages. On the day of the event, follow the signs from the corner of Hudson Road and Technology Parkway to the drive through drop-off location.

Approximately 40 volunteers are still needed to help unload items, direct traffic, survey participants, and make this event run efficiently. To volunteer, contact Tammy Turner at 266-TRAC (8722) or by email at tturner@co.black-hawk.ia.us.

Household items such as lawn chemicals, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent light bulbs (compact and tube), propane tanks, old gasoline, mercury thermometers, clogged aerosol cans (including aerosol spray paint), and much more will be accepted from residents for safe disposal. Each vehicle/household can recycle two Cathode Ray Tube containing (not flat-screen) computer monitors/televisions for free. Additional CRTs are $5 each. Flat screen TVs/monitors, computer accessories, game systems, vacuums, VCR/DVD players, radios, holiday lights, and much more will be recycled at no cost. All hard drives will be shredded. A complete list of accepted items and fees can be found at WasteTrac.org/fallhhmdropoff.html.
