VCCV Weekly Volunteer Opportunities

Connecting community, changing lives.

• The Black Hawk Soil and Water Conservation District is partnering with IOWATER and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to hold a water quality “snapshot” to gather data from the four branches of Dry Run Creek on April 16 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Volunteers will be trained and assigned locations along Dry Run Creek. The event will take place rain or shine.

Orchard Hill Elementary is holding their fun fair on April 22 from 4:45 until 8:30 p.m. and are seeking volunteers to assist with set up, taking tickets and directing games, serving food items, distributing prizes, and tear down.

The Job Foundation is recruiting volunteers on April 23 from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. to assist with the spring shopping day for program youth age 6 - 15. The shopping coach will assist a child in building a spending plan, comparison shopping, and recording their expenses in their checkbook.

• Join the American Red Cross in reducing the number of home fire deaths on Saturday, April 23 by visiting pre-determined households to check existing smoke alarms, install new alarms, and practice fire drills with residents. Teams of three will meet at 8:00 a.m. and set out from the rally location in Cedar Falls or Waterloo after enjoying breakfast and a quick training session.
