• Chariton boys golf team places second overall at Mohawk Invite (charitonleader.com) — Chariton’s boys golf team turned in its best performance of the year at the Mohawk Invite in Moravia, finishing second out of 12 teams with a 329. Led by strong rounds from Gavin Byers and Jace Gwinn, several Chargers placed in the top 20 as Coach Ben Schooley praised their consistency and improving play.
   

• John Warren Neel (kiow.com) — Longtime Chariton resident John Warren Neel, remembered for his kindness and extensive volunteer work with local causes like the Chariton Food Pantry and Red Haw State Park, has passed away at 94. Services will be held May 18 in Belmond, with memorials suggested to support the Chariton Food Pantry in his honor.
