• REAP assembly meetings (sierraclub.org) — Chariton-area residents can help shape future conservation and recreation funding at a REAP regional assembly on June 15 at Pin Oak Marsh Nature Center. Locals from Lucas, Wayne, Appanoose, and Monroe counties are invited to learn how REAP dollars are used, share project ideas, and elect delegates who will carry regional recommendations to the statewide REAP Congress in August. 
• Chariton Varsity softball team returns a lot of experience, will have solid hitting and defense this season (charitonleader.com) — Chariton softball fans can look forward to a varsity team with strong returning experience, solid defense, and a deeper bench heading into this season. With 25 girls out in grades 8–12 and nearly all starters back, the Chargers will lean on new pitchers while chasing top-three status in a tough conference led by Albia and Centerville.
