Davenport couple arrested after alleged abuse of two children; mother instructed them not to tell (kcrg.com) — Davenport residents should know that a local couple has been arrested after two children reported years of physical abuse by their mother's boyfriend, with injuries police say matched their accounts. The children also told officers their mother warned them not to report the abuse, fearing foster care, and both kids have now been removed from her custody while the pair face child endangerment charges.
   

2. Where a legend began: Davenport to officially dedicate Roger Craig Stadium on Oct. 15 (kwqc.com) — Davenport football fans are invited to the official dedication of Roger Craig Stadium at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, honoring the hometown NFL Hall of Famer where his gridiron journey began. The field, used by Central, North, and West high schools, will now permanently carry Craig's name, celebrating his championship legacy and inspiring current Blue Devils and other Davenport athletes.
   

3. Water use permits for review, published 10/08/2026 (iowadnr.gov) — If you live near Davenport's LeClaire Quarry, the DNR is reviewing a major water use permit change that would significantly increase groundwater pumping while ending direct withdrawals from McCarty Creek. Residents can review the draft permit online and submit comments to the state Water Quality Bureau through October 28, potentially influencing how this large industrial water user operates locally.
   

4. RI man sentenced to 17 years after Arsenal Bridge escape and river rescue (kwqc.com) — A Rock Island man who fled police by crashing on the Arsenal Bridge and jumping into the Mississippi River near downtown Davenport has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. Two accomplices in the 2025 drug and gun case received shorter sentences earlier, and all three were sentenced at the federal courthouse in Davenport.
   

5. Artificial wetlands clean and carry stormwater in Durant (wqad.com) — Davenport gets a shout-out for its stormwater upgrades at Goose Creek Park, where special collection areas help clean runoff before it reaches the ground. The main focus is Durant's artificial wetland, showcased by Iowa's agriculture secretary as a model for managing flooding and improving water quality, with similar grant-funded projects spread across the Quad Cities and statewide.
