• Storms bring flooded streets, downed trees and power outages to metro (who13.com) — Heavy storms have left Des Moines streets flooded, trees down, and more than 11,000 metro customers without power, while police handle hundreds of storm-related calls. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, steer clear of emergency vehicles, stay out of high water, and call 911 if they see anyone or pets in danger as more rain is expected overnight.
   

• See Ringling Bros. bring circus tricks to Blank Children's Hospital (desmoinesregister.com subscription) — Kids at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines got a lively break from treatment when Ringling Bros. performers brought juggling, unicycling, and circus tricks right into the hospital on Sept. 8. The Ringling Hype Crew spent the day entertaining young patients and families, turning hospital rooms and hallways into an impromptu circus experience.
   

• Iowa teachers earn less than national average as NEA president visits Iowa (who13.com) — Teacher pay in Iowa continues to lag the national average, and the new president of the National Education Association highlighted that gap during a visit to Hillside Elementary in West Des Moines. She praised educators' dedication while stressing that many still work multiple jobs and urged lawmakers to build on recent state efforts to raise salaries.
