• Maharishi School ranked Iowa's top private high school again (ottumwacourier.com) — Fairfield’s Maharishi School has again been named Iowa’s top private high school, also leading statewide rankings for K-12 and STEM programs for 2027. With small classes, phone-free days, and a focus on balance, the school sends all graduates to four-year colleges, and state education savings accounts now fully cover its kindergarten tuition.
   

• Girls tennis: Trojans sweep past Osky in regional semifinals (ottumwacourier.com) — Fairfield’s undefeated girls tennis team rolled past Oskaloosa 5-0 at Maharishi International University’s indoor courts, moving within one win of a Class 1A state team berth. Senior standout Ria Ross and several teammates dominated singles play, setting up a high-stakes regional final at home against Davenport Assumption on Saturday that could finally deliver the Trojans a long-sought state trip.
   

• Ronald VanLaningham (ottumwaradio.com) — Many Fairfield residents will remember Ronald “Ron” VanLaningham, who grew up here, attended Fairfield High School, and maintained close family ties in town before settling near Bloomfield. The 71-year-old farmer, truck driver, woodworker, and gardener has been cremated per his wishes, with burial planned later in Pulaski Cemetery and memorials suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
