Decker, 68, Fort Madison (pencitycurrent.com) — Fort Madison is mourning the loss of Douglas Martin Decker, 68, a 1976 Fort Madison High School graduate known for his construction work, love of local history, and ever-present dog Foxy on his electric bike rides around town. 4. Health care shaping up as central issue in IA-01 campaign (bleedingheartland.com) — Fort Madison residents face the loss of local inpatient birthing services at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center by year’s end, a change tied to difficulty recruiting OB-GYNs. That closure is now a key example in a fiercely contested congressional race, where candidates clash over Medicaid cuts, abortion restrictions, and who’s to blame for shrinking rural health care access across southeast Iowa.
