• Iowa announces water quality projects in Belle Plaine, Hiawatha, Humboldt and Sioux Center (kcci.com) — Hiawatha is set to receive $395,000 from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship to build a new stormwater pond at Fay M. Clark Memorial Park, improving drainage for an 83-acre urban area. The project is designed to reduce runoff, enhance water quality, and add amenities like urban fishing and better ADA access, while similar water-quality efforts roll out in Belle Plaine, Humboldt, and Sioux Center.

• Two in the hospital after two-vehicle crash in Hiawatha (cbs2iowa.com) — Two drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at Blairs Ferry Road and Feather Ridge Road in Hiawatha. Police say a Nissan Rogue turning onto Blairs Ferry failed to yield and collided with a westbound Dodge Dart, sending the Rogue into a ditch. The Rogue’s driver, Jean Figaro, was cited for traffic-related offenses.

• ‘Loving the Wild' Prairiewoods event invites participants to experience the world as sacred (homegrowniowan.com) — Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center in Hiawatha is hosting its “Loving the Wild: Earth Centering Our Spirituality” retreat May 15–17, inviting locals to explore ecology-focused Christian spirituality through talks, discussion, and contemplative practices. Led by theologian and pastor Rev. Dr. Lisa Dahill, the gathering offers in-person and Zoom options and aims to help participants reconnect with the natural world, community, and their own spiritual lives.
