Trial for suspects in Ped Mall mass shooting rescheduled for January (cbs2iowa.com) — The joint trial for two men charged in the April mass shooting at Iowa City's Ped Mall has been pushed to January 26, 2027, with a case conference set for November 20. Prosecutors say one man opened fire during a large late-night fight, injuring five bystanders, including three University of Iowa students, while another allegedly supplied the gun.
   

2. Area transient charged with stealing bike and assaulting domestic partner (1630kcjj.com) — A man listed as living on Gilbert Court has been charged after a witness reported seeing him take a bicycle from an Iowa City parking garage, then allegedly assault his domestic partner when she objected. He faces counts of fifth-degree theft and domestic abuse assault causing injury, and a no-contact order has been requested between the two.
   

3. State News: Record Iowa State Fair Attendance, OWI Arrest and Measles Cases (westerniowatoday.com) — Iowa City residents will see the University of Iowa expand its athletics footprint with a new Field Hockey Operations Center now under construction next to Grant Field. The state-of-the-art facility, in the works for more than a decade, is expected to transform the Hawkeyes' field hockey program as they open the 2026 season on the road at Wake Forest.
   

4. Peter Clowney To Succeed Myrna Johnson At Iowa Public Radio. (insideradio.com) — Iowa Public Radio has hired veteran media leader Peter Clowney as its next CEO, overseeing a statewide network that includes a regional office in Iowa City. Starting September 28, he'll guide IPR's news and cultural programming that already reaches more than 307,000 Iowans weekly, shaping how local listeners here get their public radio coverage for years to come.
   

5. Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions sets new fundraising record (brownfieldagnews.com) — An Iowa City 4-H member, Chloe Rogers, helped the Iowa State Fair's Sale of Champions hit a record $734,000 when her Reserve Grand Champion market steer sold for $100,000. The auction supports scholarships and ag programs for youth across Iowa, rewarding students who've invested heavily in their livestock projects.
