Christmas Tree & Winter Yard Waste Collection – January 2-13

Christmas Tree & Winter Yard Waste Collection

Residents Last Chance to Dispose of Yard & Garden Waste

Once the holidays pass, be sure to set out your real Christmas tree on your garbage collection days from Jan. 2-13. Through Metro Waste Authority’s Compost It! sticker program, participating communities (see below) provide collection of Christmas trees. Be sure to remove the decorations and do not place them in a  plastic bag. Wreaths are not accepted.

Purchase a $1.15 green Compost It! sticker at participating grocery and hardware stores. You can also set out brush bundles, Compost It! bags and carts for these two weeks.

Participating communities:  Altoona, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Grimes, Johnston, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights. Urbandale does not require Compost It! stickers on the trees, however stickers are required for store-brand yard waste bags. The City of Des Moines has year-round collection.

Non-participating communities: Ankeny provides collection starting on Jan. 9 and will only do one pass. Call Ankeny City Hall with questions at 965-6400. Mitchellville provides collection the first week of January. Prairie City residents can drop trees off at the water tower from Dec. 26-Jan. 6.
