Christmas/New Year Holiday Will Not Delay Waste Collection

Garbage, yard waste and recycling collection will not be delayed this year because Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Sunday.

Residents or businesses with questions about missed garbage or recycling collection should call their collection provider or city hall for additional information. To verify who your collection provider is, consult Metro Waste Authority’s Community-Specific Hauler Guide.  Des Moines residents should call Des Moines Public Works at 283-4950.

Metro Waste Authority Holiday Hours
The Regional Collection Center for Household Hazardous Waste and Metro Waste Authority’s Central Office are closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 in observance of the holidays.

The landfills are open regular hours on Dec. 26 and Jan 2.

Metro Park East Landfill is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. The landfill is located ten miles east of the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Highway 163 (University Ave.).

Metro Park West Landfill is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 26 and Jan 2. The landfill is located just northwest of Perry.
