Finding IRS-Approved Charitable Organizations (Blog)
neat web site address where you can enter the name of a charity and find out whether it is on the IRS list of charities

Thought I'd share with you a neat website address where you can enter the name of a charity and find out whether it is on the IRS list of charities. I was particularly interested to see that an organization I am involved with is on the list. (This is one where I filled out the 1023 for retroactive reinstatement of their non-profit status, after it lapsed for non-filing of the postcard tax form. I'd been told was accepted.) I did indeed find it as a PC, which stands for Public Charity.
I also wanted to check that a missionary organization to which a client made a significant contributions was on the list, after the client said she contributed to support a relative of hers. This organization sends missionaries overseas. It was on the list as a PC.
The address is:

Prior to today I've always searched through the online version of IRS Pub 78.
Maybe some of you will find this website useful. It was faster than any other search I've done until now.
