Recycle Cooking Oil with Us
If you plan to fry a turkey this Thanksgiving or Christmas, you can recycle the oil at our Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off. We partnered with Mid-Iowa Renewables, which recycles cooking oil from local businesses, to provide a free recycling outlet to residents.
“Collecting and recycling cooking oil is only economically possible in large quantities, which is why the service is easily offered to restaurants,” said Judi Mendenhall, Drop-Off facility director. “By having a drop-off option for residents, Metro Waste Authority can store up quantities comparable to restaurants and then have it collected and recycled.”
Acceptance Guidelines
You can recycle canola, peanut and vegetable oil year-round. Grease is not accepted. The oil collected is reused to support the local biodiesel industry.
