Holidays in Johnston at Johnston Public Library

Stop by the Johnston Public Library our annual Holidays in Johnston celebration on Saturday, December 1 from 2:30 – 4:30 pm.

As you put the finishing touches on Thanksgiving dinner, here at the library we are getting ready for our annual Holidays in Johnston celebration on Saturday, December 1 from 2:30 – 4:30 pm.

The party begins when Santa arrives on Johnston Fire Department’s ladder truck and continues with Johnston High School Madrigal Singers and the Summit Middle School Flute Choir. Stay to decorate a Christmas cookie provided by the Johnston Women’s Social Connection members. Officers from the Johnston Police Department will provide fun and game and Hy-Vee’s dietician will host a special food craft for the kids. The gingerbread house contest, sponsored by Johnston Community Education, is another can’t-miss part of the day.

There will be a prize drawing at the end of the afternoon and the lucky winner must be present to claim his or her prize. Make sure to stick around for the end of the celebration because Santa and his helpers will assist in the official lighting of the decorated tree located in Johnston Commons near Merle Hay Road.

And that’s not all. The Holiday fun continues in Johnston with the annual outdoor lighting contest which will be held during the first two weeks of December. Johnston police officers will make a note of decorated homes during their regular night patrols and winners will be selected in each area of Johnston. Winners receive both recognition and prize money. A decorated house plus fame and fortune—what could be better!
