Johnston's Big Give

The JHS Student Council has been planning Johnston's Big Give, JBG. We need the Johnston community to support us in this great event!

JHS Student Council is planning a project that we call Johnston's Big Give (JBG).  This is a series of events over a two-week period that seeks to benefit a cause.

JBG is a giving campaign that combines the proceeds from all the included events and donates them to the chosen charity to make it a true "big give".

We have attempted to engage not only the student body, but also the entire community.

As a school, and community, we have seen many indivuduals affected by cancer.  Hearing these stories has motivated us, as a council, to choose to support the American Cancer Society as the recipient of JBG.

To make this a truly successful event, we cannot do this alone.  We need your help.  There are many opportunites for you to participate!

First off, you can help us to spread the word.  Sharing this post with family, neighbors, and friends and anyone else in the Johnston community will let others know!  If you are on Facebook, "like" the JHS Announcements page to recieve updates on JBG.

Secondly, you can contribute.  We are accepting money contributions for JBG.  This amount will be added to our grand total.    Also, businesses and individuals can contribute an item for the raffle that we are holding on Jan. 27th.  That night, both the boys and girls teams will be taking on Urbandale.  We are having a Coaches Against Cancer night that includes a raffle.  So far, donations have donated anything from gift cards to an iPad.  Some donations are even money so that we, as a council, can purchase what we think is best for the raffle.

Third, you can attend a JBG event

Jan 27th, 6:15 and 7:45 pm : Coaches Against Cancer Basketball Game, vs Urbandale, raffle, Overtime at Johnston E-Free--
--Wear as much purple as possible in order to create a complete purple-out.  Yes, the game is against our biggest rival, Urbandale, but we share a common rival, cancer.  To help defeat this common rival, raffle tickets can be purchased ($5 each or 3 for $10) for a wide variety of items.
--After the game, students are able to head to Johnton E-Free Church for Overtime.  Here, there will be pizza, dodgeball, friends and more!  Students will have the opportunity to make free-will donatins at this event.

Jan 30th, 7:00 pm : Johnston's Got Talent, JMS Auditorium--
--attend this talent show that is open to the community to be able to see the talent that Johnston has to offer.  Acts will be performed in front of judges, and while the judges are collaborating, the JHS show choirs, Synergy and Innovation, will perform.  Tickets are $5 each, and may be purchased by emailing scott.syroka@mchsi.com

Feb 1st, all day : Eat at Buffalo Wild Wings--
--during the day, at BWW on Merle Hay, a portion of the bill will go to JBG.  To be able to participate in this donation, customers need to mention they are with Johnston.

Feb 6th, 4:00-9:00 pm : Eat at Culver's--
--Culver's will donate a portion of each bill to JBG.

Feb 8th, 8:00 am : Student Pancake Breakfast, JHS--
--Students can come to have a breakfast of pancakes.  This will be on a Wednesday, late start day and students can come before class starts.  The Johnston Kiwanis Club will be right in front of the cafeteria cooking up pancakes and students will be able to eat in the cafeteria.  Students, remember to bring $5 to get your pancakes!

Fourth, you can purchase raffle tickets.  Even if you are not able to make it to the game on Jan 27th, you can still be a part of the raffle!  You do not need to be present to win.  Tickets can be purchased by sending cash or checks along with a name and phone number to: c/o Chris Beguhn, JHS, 6501 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston, Iowa 50131.  You will be notified if you win.  If you would like your payment picked up from you, email scott.syroka@mchsi.com.  Checks for the raffle can be made payable to JHS, just write "JBG Raffle" in the memo line.  Tickets are $5 each or 3 tickets for $10.

We hope that you can support us in this great event, and thank you in advance for all that you do!
