Enjoy the Shade
The patio on the west side of the Johnston Public Library now has a new look!
Thanks to cooperation among the Johnston Parks & Recreation Department, the Park Board, the Library Board, and the Johnston Public Library Foundation, a shade structure has been added to make the patio more inviting. The new feature was installed by a crew of Johnston Park employees in mid-July.

The City and the Johnston Public Library Foundation shared the cost of the structure, thanks in part to a bequest from the Kay Heard Estate. Heard was a long-time resident of the Johnston community and was a dedicated library volunteer who assisted with youth activities. She included a generous gift to the Library’s Foundation in her estate planning. The shade structure, which will benefit both park and library users, is a tangible result of her donation.
