Remembering Our Fallen Photo Exhibit

Honor our proud Iowa Military men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice by attending "Remembering Our Fallen", a photo exhibit at the library from May 30 to June 4.

Honor our proud men and women who have served in uniform and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom by attending “Remembering Our Fallen,” a photo exhibit of Iowa soldiers who have given their lives while serving our country.  This photo exhibit depicts the 77 Iowans killed in the War on Terror while in Afghanistan or Iraq.  Opening ceremony for this exhibit will be held at Johnston Public Library on May 30 at 6:00 p.m. and the photo display will remain at the library for public viewing from May 30 through June 4, 2012 during normal library hours.

This exhibit was created by Bill and Evonne Williams of Patriotic Productions in Omaha and is sponsored by Bellevue University. “The Warriors of the 21st century, professionals, who volunteered to join the United States Armed Forces, grew up in the shadow of September 11, 2001, a defining moment for most of them. They come from all walks of life and every corner of our country, daring to go where so many never would. They retain the face of freedom and build upon the legacies of those who went before them in a cause greater than themselves, said Bill Williams. “We can never forget those who sacrificed everything for our freedom. We must remember these American heroes and speak their names when we see their family members.”

Some of the 77 heroes that will be honored include men and women from the Johnston and Urbandale area. Twenty-eight year old Cpt. Daniel P. Whitten, a graduate of Johnston Public High School, was killed February 2, 2010 by an IED while on tour in Afghanistan. PFC Eric P. Woods from Urbandale was killed July 9, 2005 by an IED while on tour in Iraq. PFC Brandon C. Sturdy from Urbandale was only 19 when he was killed in action on May 13,2004. These are just a few of the brave American heroes that will be honored at this exhibit.
