Hunger Action Month at Johnston Public Library

September is Hunger Action Month. The Johnston Public Library and the Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community have events planned throughout the month to raise awareness about hunger in our own community. One out of every five Iowa children does not get enough to eat and 395,620 Iowans live at or below the poverty level.

Community members are invited to bring food items to the Johnston Public Library during the month of September. Collected items will be distributed through the Johnston Partnership Food Pantry. During the week of September 23, Children’s Story Time will also focus on food and sharing. In addition, Johnston Public Library will have a book display featuring books with a focus on food insecurity and hunger. Finally, to cap off Hunger Action Month, Chef Christina Ryan-Pfleeger from Johnston Hy-Vee will present a free holiday cooking class on October 5th at 10:00am at the library, with an emphasis on budget-friendly holiday cooking. Pre-register at www.johnstonlibrary.com or by calling 515-278-5233.

Together, we can solve hunger. Check out the shopping list below for suggestions for the food drive:
