Wine, boutique beer, light appetizers, and displays from local artists will be featured at a special fundraiser set for Sunday, September 15 from 4:00-8:00 pm. Aptly named “Art in the Barn,” the event will be held at the Simpson Barn at 6169 Northglenn Drive just west of the Johnston Public Library. Johnston Hy-Vee will cater the event. The Jefferson Oatts Trio will add to the lively atmosphere while attendees browse through the art displays of a number of local artists. Many of the art pieces are available for purchase at the event.
The Friends of the Johnston Public Library are hosting the fundraiser. This group supports the efforts of the library both through word-of-mouth marketing and financial support for “extras” that the library would not otherwise be able to provide. Proceeds from last year’s Art in the Barn enabled the subscription to Mango, an online language-learning database for more than 30 different languages. According to Willona Goers, Library Director, “This database had been on the Library’s ‘wish list’ for several years, and the proceeds from Art in the Barn 2012 made the wish a reality.”

Lisa Cooper, Art in the Barn chairperson for the Friends group, is excited to build upon the successes of the two previous years. “This year may raise even more funds to benefit the Library, thanks to local sponsorships. Johnston Hy-Vee and John Deere Financial are key sponsors, along with contributing sponsorships from Great River Brewery and JoAnn Manning of Iowa Realty.”
