Common Recycling Mistakes

If you’re spending more time outdoors now that the weather is warm, then there is a good chance you’ve come across some of these items when doing yard work, picnicking or gardening. Below is a list of summertime items people frequently mistake as recyclable.These do NOT belong in your Curb It! cart.

• Outdoor plastic toys
• Lawn product bags
• Garden hoses
• Plastic plant containers

Picnic/Camping Items:

• Aluminum foil & pans
• Berry (clamshell) containers
• Disposable cups and plates
• Propane tanks

What Makes Something Recyclable?There are two factors that make something recyclable in the Curb It! program:

1. A manufacturer has a demand for the product and the ability to reuse it.
2. The recycling sorting facility has a process to separate the material from the others.
