New Year, New Book Clubs

Kick off your new year with the love of literature. Johnston Public Library now has three different book clubs to choose from for readers of all ages. Read great books and discuss them with great people. Read on for more details:

School-Age Book Club (Grades 3-5)
Wednesday, January 8 at 4:15pm
Join us on the second Wednesday of each month for lively literature discussions, snacks and more for third through fifth graders. Come to the first meeting with a favorite book or a book you have recently finished. The group will decide on next month’s theme together at this meeting. Please call the library at 515-278-5233 to reserve a spot.

Tuesday Teen Book Clubs
Tuesday, January 21
4:15pm for 6th and 7th Grade
6:30pm for 8th Grade and Up

Tuesday Book Clubs are a fun way to talk about the best new books and hang out with friends at the same time. No particular book is assigned for each meeting, although next month’s theme is decided collectively during the meeting. Tuesday Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month and tasty snacks and drinks are provided. Bring a book you’re read recently to talk about this month. Please call the library at 515-278-5233 to RSVP.

Adult Book Club
Tuesday, January 9 from 6:30pm to 7:45pm
Join a group of fellow book lovers for a spirited discussion of this month’s featured book, The Light Between Oceans by M.S. Stedman. This novel is set on a remote Australian island, where a childless couple live quietly running a lighthouse, until a boat carrying a baby washes ashore, bringing new life and ethical turmoil. Johnston Public Library’s Adult Book Club meets on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 – 7:45pm. Come for the discussion and stay for the coffee, treats, and good company. No registration necessary; books are available at the Circulation Desk while supplies last.
